Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-08-05
These terms govern your use of the Statlet Android app
(com.gpm.statlet), provided by Gabriele Proietti Mattia. Installing or using
the app means you accept them. If you do not, do not install it — and uninstall it if you
already have.
What Statlet is
Statlet draws live information into the Android status bar: weather, network throughput, phone temperature, battery level, memory and storage. It does this by posting ongoing notifications whose small icons it redraws — the only way an app without root can put anything in the status bar.
Licence
You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control. You may not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute it, and you may not remove or alter attribution or notices in it.
Where the source code is published, its own licence governs the code — these terms cover the distributed app, not the repository.
No warranty
The app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. It is a personal project, not a commercial product with a support obligation.
What the readings are, and are not
Every value Statlet shows is an approximation, for information only. Specifically:
- Phone temperature — Android exposes no public CPU-temperature API without root. The app reads a kernel thermal zone where the device allows it, and otherwise falls back to the battery sensor, which reads several degrees lower than the SoC. The notification states which sensor answered.
- Network speed — computed from system-wide traffic counters over a short interval, not a measurement of your connection’s capacity.
- Weather — supplied by a third party (Open-Meteo or OpenWeatherMap) and neither produced nor verified by the app.
- Battery, memory, storage — reported as the operating system reports them.
Do not rely on these values for any decision where being wrong matters — health, safety, thermal management of the device, navigation, or anything financial or medical. They may be stale, wrong, or absent, and on some devices the icons stop updating entirely (see below).
Things outside anyone’s control
The app depends on behaviour that manufacturers change freely:
- Some skins reorder status-bar icons, cap how many one app may show, or hide them.
- From Android 16 the system bundles an app’s notifications into one status-bar icon; the app works around this by rotating a single icon, which is a workaround, not a fix.
- Aggressive battery optimisation can suspend the service, freezing the icons on their last value.
These are limits of the platform. No promise is made that the app will work on any particular device or Android version, or keep working after a system update.
Third-party services
Weather comes from Open-Meteo or, if you configure it, OpenWeatherMap; optional diagnostics go through Google Firebase. Your use of those services is subject to their own terms, and their availability is not guaranteed here. If you use OpenWeatherMap you are responsible for your own API key, including any quota, cost or terms attached to it.
See the Privacy Policy for what is sent where.
Acceptable use
Do not use the app unlawfully, do not attempt to disrupt the services it depends on (including automated abuse of the weather APIs), and do not use it in a way that violates the terms of those services.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Gabriele Proietti Mattia is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, nor for loss of data, device damage, battery drain, or any loss arising from reliance on a displayed value or from the app failing to display one.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Consumers keep their mandatory statutory rights, which these terms do not limit.
Availability and changes
The app may be modified, suspended or discontinued at any time, and these terms may be updated; the current version always lives on this page, with the date below. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence, and may bring proceedings in the courts there.
